Module One
Student Assessment and Placement

Continued from Part 1. . . . . this is Part 2

Procedure for CASAS Test Administration

  1. Administer the CASAS Oral Screening (printable copy-example shown below)
  2. If the student struggles with completing the registration form, administer the 5 Practice items from CASAS form 27. If the practice items are completed with difficulty, then administer the Native Language Literacy Screening.
  3. If the student has no difficulty completing the 5 Practice items from CASAS Form 27, then administer the CASAS reading appraisal to determine the correct level of the CASAS test(s) to be given. Students scoring 190 or below on the reading test do not have to take the listening test. For students who do take both the listening and reading test, they are placed according to the lower of the two scores, but both scores should be tracked and reported to assist in post-testing.
  4. Although the CASAS Writing Screening is not required for placement or progress testing, it is strongly recommended so that you can identify student writing capabilities.

Example — CASAS ORAL INTERVIEW

According to Florida's Technical Assistant Paper for Assessment in Adult Education, all personnel administering assessment must receive the required training in administration of the BEST Plus or CASAS.
